Lynchburg Humane Society

The Lynchburg Humane Society has operated for over 50 years as a private, non-profit organization who cares for the lost and homeless animals in the Lynchburg area. The Society’s goal is to become a “No Kill” community with 87 to 94% of its animals being adopted by new families. Lynchburg Humane Society is contracted by the City of Lynchburg to care for its stray animals.
The single story building is designed to highlight the animals so that they become more easily adoptable. The building is divided in half by “Main Street” which allows visitors to view the animals in real life rooms, cat condos and visitation rooms. The majority of the dogs are located in kennels that are flooded with natural light from skylights above.
Approximately a third of the animal holding area is designated as the City Pound. The building also contains the administrative offices for the Society and a training room that will be used for educational purposes.
